Yesterday, I completed my second full Whole 30. I would be lying if I said I wanted to quit it 983,834,432 times. I am really happy though I stuck it out and completed it. I did my first Whole 30 in January of 2015 after I had my 4th child. It was a great way to get my eating in check, figure out my food sensitivities and make sure I was eating well to nurse a growing baby.
This time was so much different. I was able to listen to only my body. I kept a list of recipes my family all enjoys so I can menu plan from the list in the future. I noticed so many non-scale victories as well. My skin is clear and more balanced. My joints don’t ache during my morning workouts, I fall asleep easier and sleep more soundly, I relearned when I am actually hungry vs. mindless eating- sometimes staying at home I have a tendency to snack and not eat actual meals. I have fewer carb cravings and definitely feel better (both mentally and physically) when I am eating better.
I did lose a little over 9 lbs, 3% in body fat and 4.5 inches from my waist, hips, legs and arms. I didn’t measure my chest because I knew I’d lose some inches there and that just makes me sad. Haha! What I gained throughout this process was even more than what I lost.
I did miss wine on the weekends with my husband though. I missed having a glass of wine together and watching some of our favorite shows on Netflix. I found other ways to use that time though, we would still watch shows, but I folded laundry, painted my nails, drank some decaf coffee or would read.
Going forward, I’ll still be cooking from my favorite two cookbooks- Well Fed and Well Fed 2, making double and triple batches to freeze to make dinners on the go a bit easier. I am going to continue to eat ‘Whole 6’ and one day a week have some wine, because I did miss that time. My husband was really supportive though and didn’t once ask me if I wanted to drink wine, which I so appreciated.
One thing I kept reminding myself was, ‘the time will pass anyway, but at the end of the 30 days do I want to be happy I kept my commitment or mad that I quit half way?’ Now that the 30 days are up, I am glad I kept my commitment.
I thought I would share a few of my favorite resources if you are thinking this might be something for you!
